OF COURSE YOU ARE! We are always looking for people like you! People who love radically, live fully, and desire to share it with others.

So say yes to this invitation and apply today for our summer team, we cannot wait to see, know, love, and celebrate you—YOU ARE WORTH IT!

  • Volunteer Opportunities

There’s much to do at Upward Bound Camp!  Between camper programming, property/facility maintenance and improvements. There is always something to do, and volunteers help to keep it all going!

We are also looking to add new Board Members to our committee. If you are interested in being involved, please fill out the volunteer form and let us know your interests.

Regular Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Off Season: Campus Care

Volunteers play a vital role in the operation of UBC. Though opportunities are currently limited we could not do what we do without volunteer help. Due to the temporary nature of our structures, it takes a significant amount of manpower to both set up and tear down the campus so that it is clean, safe, and welcoming to our campers and families. We welcome volunteers of all ages for our volunteer days and are sure that we will have something for everyone to do no matter their ability or skill level!

Spring: (~2 5 hr. days, TBD) Tent setup and camp preparation

Fall: (~2 5 hr. days, TBD) Tent teardown and winter prep (opposite of spring)

Fill out the form below if you are interested in volunteering during our off-season.

  • Summer: Weeklong Volunteer Counselor

Join the UBC team for an entire week of camp! Receive all necessary training prior to camper arrival and assist counselors to build meaningful relationships with Upward Bound Campers through supporting them in conversation, mealtimes, activities, and more. Weeklong volunteers stay on camp property and complete around 60 hrs. of service during their time at camp. Engage with UBC staff each night to reflect on your experience, ask questions, and discuss topics relevant to the campers served. We work with various Oregon schools to ensure that all requirements for service are met and/or exceeded!

Fill out an application by clicking on the “Summer Volunteer” button and we will match you up with our current needs for help and your availability.

Our limited indoor facilities make it easy to enjoy the outdoors! From walking the path to wading in the river to campfires in the meadow, you can expect to unplug and reconnect with the natural world

Make Yourself at Home!

Enjoy the rustic nature of camp as you share a cozy canvas bell tent outfitted with beds, benches, and a nightstand with another staff member.

Make Every Day an Adventure!

Every day at camp will bring something new as you support campers in a variety of activities including arts & crafts, physical games, archery, music, dance, talent shows, skits, devotionals, fishing, wading, yoga, sports, and more!

All of this is making me hungry! No worries, you’ll have meals covered too! We serve 3 meals each day plus a snack during camp sessions. On weekends you will work with the rest of the summer team to prepare some delicious foods from your culture…or top ramen, whatever strikes your fancy!

Further, our staff are equipped with knowledge on the standard practices to provide personal care to people with a variety of support needs as well as skills in communication, and behavior management. • What we look for is a little less about skills and a lot more about character! We know that all people have something to bring to the table and we want to see and celebrate what you bring! We also look to cultivate the following:

    • Patience: the ability to sit with a person and seek mutual understanding, provide regular reminders, live at someone else's pace

    • Active Listening & Communication Skills- our campers communicate in a variety of ways including verbal, nonverbal, and through augmented and alternative communication devices. It is important that you are open to communicating through your body, tone, and expression as well as your words.

    • An open and flexible attitude: Camp is a dynamic and fast paced environment, meaning that one day will never be like the next. Counselors who are able to remain calm and confident when changes arise allow our campers to thrive!

    • Willingness to share the Gospel- we are a faith based camp and hope that all campers will experience the love of God and hear the Truth while they are here

  • Most basically, you are living life alongside people—seeking to love them well. To us this looks like

    • Welcome campers & coworkers with intentionality.

  • While every day looks a little different, usually you can expect that your day will start around 7am when you wake up and prepare yourself for the day. Afterward, you will assist campers to get ready for the day and make their way to breakfast! Mornings will include daily devotionals led by counselors, an activity or two, AM chores, and more. After lunch the fun continues with arts & crafts, games, music activities, and more. Every evening will have an all camp event just before campers go to bed at 8:30ish! Staff are expected to be in bed by 11pm and may have limited on call responsibilities to support campers a few nights each week.

Part of our two week training is geared toward building meaningful relationships between staff! Because staff relationships are so important to us we also pause in the middle of the summer season to take a team retreat, allowing us to slow down, reconnect, and deepen relationship with one another!

Let’s meet up in real life and share in the joy of camp life!
