Accomodations

During the summer we blend the rustic feel of camp with the comfort of home in our canvas bell tents that serve as camper cabins! Each tent sleeps 2 campers. A shower trailer and portable toilets serve as bathhouses and the Gates Schoolhouse, serves many purposes— dining hall, activity space, electricity and indoor plumbing!! We also have various outdoor pavilions and spaces used for activities including an archery range, gravel track, baseball field, campfire pit, hiking path, and nature pavilion.

Frequently Asked Questions

  •  Our goal is to open registration for all camper programs each year by the beginning of January. When registration is open we will send out an informational email and/or postcard to those on our mailing list. If you would like to be added to these lists please scroll to the bottom of our “home” page to get signed up! Or email carole.robare@upwardboundcamp.org

  • While this changes from camp to camp we aim to have a ratio of 4:1 or less. Campers who are best supported 1:1 can be accommodated on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for more information if this is a support that you need! camp@upwardboundcamp.org

  • We seek to offer individualized support to meet the specific needs of each camper who comes to share life with us. We are well suited to support campers who need assistance with ADLs such as toileting, showering, mealtime support, dressing, etc. We seek to provide social support whenever possible to foster healthy relationships within our community. Furthermore, we have a nurse and recreational therapist on staff allowing us to care for most medical needs and can adapt almost any activity to fit the abilities of each camper!

  • Unfortunately, yes, though we are constantly working to find new ways to incorporate all people into our programming we still have some limitations. Please contact camp@upwardboundcamp.org for more information on any of the following as we would like to work with you to get your camper involved in programming if possible!

Medical: We are unable to support campers who require IV medications, diabetic campers unable to check their own blood sugar levels and administer their own insulin, or campers using feeding tubes.

Behavioral: To create a safe environment for all staff and campers, we may not be able to support campers who have shown abusive/injurious behaviors to themselves and/or others in the past 6 months.

Facilities: Due to the loss of many of our buildings in the 2020 fire we are currently unable to support campers who use powered wheelchairs and/or hoyer style lifts to transfer. We ARE able to support campers who can use manual wheelchairs and are able to bear some weight in a manpowered lift/transfer.

**If you are interested in scheduling a retreat during the fall, winter, or spring we are currently only able to serve campers who can ambulate independently or with the support of a cane or walker due to the structure of the camp house.

  • Summer camps begin in June and run through August. Camp sessions begin with camper arrival at 11am on the first day of camp!

  • This depends on the camp that you are attending!

Summer Camp: Arrival and Pickup at 11:00am

Day Camp: Arrival at 10:00am and pickup at 3:00pm

*note: Camp gates will open at the listed arrival and pickup times to allow staff to fully prepare for your arrival!

  • While activities change each week based on the theme and counselor skills, common camp activities include archery, animal encounters, water games, nature walks/hikes, fishing, campfire, music/instruments, skits, arts & crafts, physical activities, a talent show, camp dance, and more!

  • The bulk of our programs are Summer camps from June-August. These are 3 or 4 day overnight experiences with 12-20 campers and a team of summer staff!

We also offer limited off season programs like holiday parties and day camp programs.

If campers are interested in overnight programs outside of typical summer camps we are happy to schedule a retreat with that camper (and a few friends if they would like!)

To learn more, please check out our camps page!

  • At this time we are only offering holiday parties and day camps due to limited facilities and staffing. We hope that overnight holiday camps can return in future years and can’t wait to see you at one of our holiday events!

  • Currently our day camp program is limited to a few scheduled programs and holiday themed celebrations while we rebuild! We hope to get this program off the ground as soon as we are able so please email our program director emily@upwardboundcamp.org if you are interested in this opportunity or have ideas about how this could best be designed to serve you!

  • Camp prices are dependent on current rates set by the state. Current prices for overnight camps are $696.75 for 3 nights and $929 for 4 nights!

If possible, we encourage you to talk to your service coordinator about adding camp to your ISP

  • Absolutely! Work with your personal agent to get camp added to your ISP. For overnight camps you will need service code OR507 “Daily Relief Care” to be added for the number of days you would like to be at camp!

Please ask your personal agent/service coordinator to visit our website to learn more!

  • No! Upward Bound Camp wants camp programming to be as accessible as possible for our participants. This means that there is no additional registration fee or other hidden fees!

Let us share with you the joy of camp life!
